Galguard Trident (Phenoxyethanol, Capryloyl Glycine and Undecylenoyl Glycine) -A Novel, Safe & Non-controversial Preservative Blend
Cosmetics are used to preserve Wellness & Beauty of Consumers. However, most Cosmetic formulations themselves need preservation whether Leave-On or Rinse-Off.
The trick lies in ensuring that Cosmetics are preserved with least controversial preservatives. Many preservatives have come under the scanner of controversies (toxic to human and toxic to ecology). Some banned in certain countries and some under serious rage of negative public opinion. The details of the controversy regarding the scientific results and findings of preservatives are well documented and published in reputed Science Journals. Very few Antibacterial molecules are left out which have not attracted any controversy.
Cosmetics need preservation over the broad spectrum of G +Ve & G -Ve bacteria, Yeast and Mold. Therefore preservation warrants using a blend of preservatives to be effective over the broad spectrum microbes.
Galaxy is a reputed global leader of Phenoxyethanol with lowest level of impurity of free Phenol and the quality is acknowledged by Global MNCs as one of the best in the industry. Additionally, Phenoxyethanol is a widely used, known, safe anti-microbial molecule. But then Phenoxyethanol is effective against Gram -Ve organisms.
The microbes become resistant over time if preserved by a single molecule and therefore we were in search of more non-controversial molecules that can give full and safe protection against Yeast, Bacteria and Molds.
The additional preservative molecules had to be complementary ingredients, friendly among themselves and friendly to cosmetic ingredients that Formulators use. We wanted to ensure that the preservative molecules do not fight among themselves and with other cosmetic ingredients used by Formulators.
In our search for the ingredients which are safe, non-controversial preservatives and coupled with the safe way of delivering to the Formulators a "Blend of Preservatives" in a "Micro Emulsion" form, where the preservative molecules themselves are held separately in a "Micro Emulsion" form; we decided on Capryloyl Glycine and Undecylenoyl Glycine. Thus our innovative offering of Phenoxyethanol, Capryloyl Glycine and Undecylenoyl Glycine as "Micro Emulsion" has been globally patented by us.
Capryloyl Glycine and Undecylenoyl Glycine that are used in Galguard, by themselves are not even listed as preservatives in Cosmetics Directive, Annexure VI. But then, these two molecules in the presence of Phenoxyethanol, are synergistic and forms a formidable armour against broad spectrum microbes.
Capryloyl Glycine and Undecylenoyl Glycine are non-controversial, known molecules in the cosmetic industry for a long time.
But our innovative trick apart from selection of the molecules was in the way we have arranged them as a "Micro Emulsion" so that Phenoxyethanol, Capryloyl Glycine and Undecylenoyl Glycine coexist in a stable and happy housing without coming in to contact with each other in our offering. That's the innovation and hence a global patent.
