Advancing responsible palm sourcing at Galaxy

29 Jan 20255 min read

At Galaxy, palm- raw materials form the foundation of many of our specialty surfactants, and with that comes responsibility. We recognise the environmental and social challenges associated with palm oil and have made responsible sourcing a central pillar of our sustainability journey.

A proud member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) since 2012, Galaxy has embedded sustainability across every level of its palm value chain. By 2014, our Indian site achieved RSPO Mass Balance (MB), a milestone later extended to our Egypt facility.

For over a decade, all relevant manufacturing sites have maintained RSPO certification, reinforced through:

  • Regular internal and third-party audits
  • Transparent reporting via RSPO’s Annual Communication of Progress (ACOP)

Partnering with like-minded customers and suppliers has strengthened oil palm traceability and improved our capabilities to ensure availability of RSPO certified finished goods as per customer needs, lowering the environmental impact of our palm value chain.

Our sourcing model continues to evolve through supplier collaborations, risk assessment tools, and integration of No Deforestation, No Peat, No Exploitation (NDPE) principles into our compliance systems. Traceability is at the core; we monitor both Traceability to Mill (TTM) and Traceability to Plantation (TTP) data.

Today, 99.6% of our palm sourcing is traceable to mills and 56% traceable to plantations, ensuring visibility and accountability across our network.

Galaxy actively participates in CDP Forests disclosures, where palm oil is identified as a key forest-risk commodity. In the 2024 CDP– Forest Security Disclosure, we achieved a “B” management level rating, underscoring our progress in transparency, risk management, and impact reduction.

Our NDPE framework guides all sourcing practices and is recognised by our suppliers. In cases of non-compliance, we engage directly with suppliers to resolve issues and disengage if corrective actions are not taken. These measures are supported by:

  • Annual traceability checks
  • Regular supplier training
  • Clear sustainability policy declarations

Galaxy’s responsible palm sourcing strategy is built on certification, traceability, and accountability. By combining robust systems with transparent reporting, we are not only strengthening the resilience of our supply chain, but also shaping a more responsible, regenerative palm industry for the future.
